Green Bean Team
We are the Green Bean Team!
Our garden
The Green Bean Team comprises of a small group of tutors and young people who meet on a weekly basis at Green Scene Garden Centre, Todwick, S.Yorks. We have the kind support of the owner at Green Scene.
We have a large plot of ground which we are preparing, to make way for a garden paradise of our own design!
This involves clearing the plot, weeding, digging, raking and planting. Over the autumn and winter, we will also be planning in detail what our garden will look like. We want to attract wildlife with homemade bird and bat boxes, insect boxes and possibly a small wildlife pond. In spring we will be sowing seeds and raising plants ready to be put outside as the weather improves. Our garden will eventually be home to flowers, shrubs and vegetables!
Not just about gardening
We are not just about gardening however! We give young people the opportunity to mix with like-minded learners, who can thrive in the fresh air and friendly atmosphere of The Green Bean Team. Learners will have the opportunity to study core subjects along with Aims Awards in Horticulture. Positive interaction with tutors and Garden Centre staff also brings its own rewards and acts as an excellent introduction to the world of work.
Working in a tight knit, but friendly, team improves learner confidence and self-esteem. We have already seen improvements in learner behaviour and a more positive attitude to “school”. The feeling of belonging to a special group, like ours, seems to be particularly beneficial for those learners with anxiety issues or school phobia.
